Trump in Mississippi, Iran War Costs, Instagram's Long Play, and Election Trouble

My fellow Americans, happy to have you along. With me today was my dear friend James Edwards of ThePoliticalCesspool.org, a well-known commentator on race, politics, and hypocrisy in the 21st century. His broadcast is live every Saturday night and syndicated on Liberty News Radio and beyond. James was just down in Corinth, Mississippi, for Donald Trump's rally, and he brought us the on-the-ground report.

Trump in Corinth, Mississippi

James told us Corinth is a small town in northwest Mississippi, with a population of about 14,000, the political and economic heart of rural Alcorn County. His paternal grandparents were born there, his great-grandparents are buried there, and he spent a lot of boyhood days there. So when the President of the United States rolls into a place like that a week before Election Day, James said it is not a victory lap. It is a warning flare.

James said the crowd applauded, but it did not have the rapturous energy of 2016, except when Trump told the old folks he would protect their Social Security. James said they were getting out of their rascals and doing somersaults, like Christ raising Lazarus. Trump said there were 22,000 people outside who couldn't get in. James was there and said maybe he meant 2,000. There were people outside, and they did have a jumbotron, but it wasn't 22,000.

The reason Trump was there is that Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith is in danger of losing a Senate seat Republicans should have banked long ago. The last Democrat Mississippi sent to the United States Senate was John C. Stennis in 1982, the same month Michael Jackson released Thriller. That's how far back you've got to go.

Trump's Hits, Misses, and the Reality Check

James gave a fair and honest assessment, and that is what we try to do. Trump does things we like, we give him credit. He does things we don't like; we talk about that. I said Donald Trump and the Republicans, compared to what these Democrats, Socialists, Communists will do, is still striking. You're not really voting for Donald and company. You're voting against people that would absolutely destroy the country. These people are unhinged and off their rock and absolutely crazy. That is a reality check, folks.

Trump opened by invoking Willie Horton. Then he said rapes in Memphis and New Orleans dropped since he sent the National Guard in. He said two percent of the population were committing 91 percent of the crimes, and he took care of them. James, talking as a Memphian, said he is glad the troops are there and doesn't want them to leave. Trump also played the hits: media is the enemy, Letitia James is what you get if the other side wins, keep boys out of girls' bathrooms, protect the Second Amendment, keep English as the official language, stop the border from being flooded, and remove DEI language and critical race theory propaganda from government. James said, frankly, that's true.

But not everything landed. James said he does not believe for a second that Iran was about to get a nuke, and that it sounded like the script of Wag the Dog. He said Trump's current Middle East foreign policy repudiates the non-interventionist platform that helped propel him to the presidency. I asked the moral question: are we the decision makers on whether another country gets nuclear weapons or not? North Korea has them. India has them. Pakistan has them. Russia and China have them. Who puts us center stage as global police?

If we believe war is important enough, follow the Constitution and do it right. Even if I disagreed morally, if it was done legally and appropriately, I would support the rule of law and the way we went about it. We need to hold that moral high ground.

Instagram Goes Long and the Numbers Game

James and I talked about how much things have changed. Two decades ago, you needed gatekeepers. Now everybody with electricity and an internet connection is a commentator and content creator. But I warned folks about trusting the numbers. TikTok, the Gram, YouTube, Rumble, Truth Social, X- they all count differently. How long do you watch before it counts? Is it a view, a glimpse, a short? If somebody watches five minutes of a 90-minute video, does it count?

Iran War Costs $47 Billion and Growing

James said that's why Trump is campaigning in rural Mississippi, bloody red Mississippi, because people are suffering financially and there's always money for the military-industrial complex. He brought up Thomas Massie trying to get Pete Hegseth impeached before Congress went on a two-month break. Trump campaigned on securing the border and getting out of neocon wars, and now he has gotten us into a place that even Dick Cheney in his wildest dreams couldn't have gotten us in.

Election Systems, Hacking, and Consumer Pain

James said the old paper ballot system made sense: show ID, mark a paper ballot, count it at the precinct, send the numbers up. What was wrong with that system? I said it was harder to cheat under that system, James. That's the problem with it.

On the economy, they say consumer confidence rose to 91.7, up from September's revised 82. I said, how do you revise that? If it was wrong the first time, how do we know it isn't wrong the second time? James called it gaslighting. You can't afford health care, homes, gas, groceries, or fast food. James said he has a wife and three kids, and combos at any fast food place run 50 or 60 bucks. I had to cancel my health insurance after it went up 70 percent. James dropped his too.

My advice to President Trump was simple: quit running around with diarrhea of the mouth about people's derrieres and focus on something that would move the needle, like getting rid of the IRS. People from both sides of the aisle would love it.
