Original Funder of Fusion GPS Opposition Research Revealed

M j, Y

Washington Free Beacon attorneys told the House Intelligence Committee on Friday that it had funded the original “anti-Trump opposition research project with Fusion GPS.” The Free Beacon supported the research from 2015 through the spring of 2016. Attorneys said that the opposition research included “research into multiple Republican candidates, not just front-runner Donald Trump.” The Free Beacon stresses that when it was funding the opposition research, it “had no knowledge of or connection to the Steele dossier, did not pay for the dossier, and never had contact with, knowledge of, or provided payment for any work performed by Christopher Steel.“ The Free Beacon also said that it did not “have any knowledge of the relationship between Fusion GPS and the Democratic National Committee, Perkins Coie, and the Clinton Campaign.” The funder of the Washington Free Beacon is billionaire Paul Singer. Singer opposed Trump doing the time the Beacon was funding the research.

Lots of Democrats Running in 2020

Tom Perez, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said that he expects there will be a “double-digit number of candidates” who run in the primaries for the 2020 Democratic nominating process. By having a large number of candidates running, Perez hopes to put to bed the myth that Democrats can’t field a “bench of presidential candidates.” "I would welcome that because I hear people say we don't have a bench of presidential candidates, and I could not agree with that more.” Perez calls the primary debate “spectacular.” “My job is to make sure the paling field is level.” Currently the expected Democratic roster includes Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, and Rim Ryan. Not mentioned was Bernie Sanders. The Vermont senator is not a Democrat. After the election, he changed his party affiliation back to independent. If he does run, Senator Sanders has the interest of motivated college students and could lead the field. Perez has disclaimed any knowledge of what DNC officials and Clinton Campaign officials knew or did with respect to the funding of the dossier on candidate Trump.

President Trump Claims Credit For Discrediting Media

M j, Y

President Trump tweaked the media by boasting how he’d reduced “public trust in the mainstream media” since his campaign began. He said that he’s “proud” of having convinced “people how fake it is.” “I've really started this whole fake news thing,” said Trump. The president told Lou Dobbs that the media “is so dishonest.” “What could be more fake than CBS and NBC and ABC and CSS what you look at some of these stories?” He said that during the campaign he was treated “very unfairly” by the press and that it did not get any better after the election. In fact, “they got much worse.” "If you look at the level of approval of … general media, if you look at it from the day I started running to now, I'm so proud that I've been able to convince people how fake it is, because it has taken a nosedive." He went on to thank Fox news saying, “Fox has treated me fairly. And I don’t mean good, but they’ve treated me fairly. I don’t want to be treated good. I just want to be treated fairly.”

Pakistan Told To Clean House

M j, Y

Secretary of State Tillerson met with India’s External Affairs Minister and called upon Pakistan to “take a tougher line on terror during a joint news conference in New Delhi.” Tillerson said, “In our discussions with Pakistani leadership yesterday in Islamabad we had a very open, frank exchange around the concerns the United States shares with other regional partners and allies – India, but also Afghanistan – that there are too many terrorist organizations that find a safe place in Pakistan from which to conduct their operations and attacks against other countries.” After Osama Bin Laden was found in Pakistan, relations between Washington and Islamabad have become strained. Tillerson told Pakistan that the long-term stability and security of the the Pakistani government is at stake. ”As these terrorist organizations have enlarged their numbers and have enlarged their strength and their capability within Pakistan’s borders, this can lead to a threat to Pakistan’s own stability.” By seeking stronger ties with India, the United States will ensure that it still has a friend in South Asia regardless what happens to Pakistan.

Voting Begins In Kenya’s Disputed Elections

M j, Y

Kenya’s rerun of the presidential elections began on Thursday. Opposition supporters of Mr. Odinga urged a boycott. Of Kenya’s 47 counties, five reported violence. Voting was postponed until a later time. Four people were killed. Roads were blocked in Kisumu and fires were set. 25 people were injured as they confronted police and many suffered gunshot injuries. The elections of August 8 were nullified by the country’s Supreme Court. The Court cited “illegalities and irregularities.” Both parties agreed to abide by the decision and rerun the election. President Kenyatta said, “What we have is a problem of tribalism, and tribalism is an issue that we must continue to deal with and fight with as we continue to develop our country.” In 2007, more than 1,000 people were killed in ethnic violence. The Kenyan election pits Mr. Kenyatta, the son of the country’s founder, against Mr. Odinga. The candidates represent the two largest tribes in Kenya. Mr. Kenyatta is a Kikuyu and Mr. Odinga is a Luo. There is a lot of hatred between the two tribes. The Kikuyu’s are the entrepreneurial class and own many of the businesses in the country. The Luo tribe is more socialistic and pushes for more government. Former President Obama is of Luo descent, if the stories of his Kenyan heritage are true.
