Pakistan Told To Clean House

Oct 27, 2017

Secretary of State Tillerson met with India’s External Affairs Minister and called upon Pakistan to “take a tougher line on terror during a joint news conference in New Delhi.” Tillerson said, “In our discussions with Pakistani leadership yesterday in Islamabad we had a very open, frank exchange around the concerns the United States shares with other regional partners and allies – India, but also Afghanistan – that there are too many terrorist organizations that find a safe place in Pakistan from which to conduct their operations and attacks against other countries.” After Osama Bin Laden was found in Pakistan, relations between Washington and Islamabad have become strained. Tillerson told Pakistan that the long-term stability and security of the the Pakistani government is at stake. ”As these terrorist organizations have enlarged their numbers and have enlarged their strength and their capability within Pakistan’s borders, this can lead to a threat to Pakistan’s own stability.” By seeking stronger ties with India, the United States will ensure that it still has a friend in South Asia regardless what happens to Pakistan.
