Companies Panic Because Millennials Don’t Understand Their Products

Home Depot executives are in a panic. It seems that millennials have no idea how to use the products that the company sells. Home Depot has spent millions of dollars creating video tutorials and in store classes on how to do “everything from using a tape measure to mopping a floor and hammering a nail.” And lest anyone think these videos are “too condescending” towards “our pampered millennials” these videos are “based on high-frequency online search queries.” This is not just a home improvement industry issue. Scotts Miracle-Gro Company has found it necessary to create video instructions on how very basic gardening tips such as “making sure sunlight can reach plants.” “These are simple things we wouldn’t have really thought to do or needed to do 15 to 20 years ago. But this is a group who may not have grown up putting their hands in the dirt growing their vegetable garden in mom and dad’s backyard,” said Jim King a vice president with Scotts. Millennials represent the largest demographic in America.
