Jail Time for Misusing Gender Pronouns

Oct 7, 2017

Nursing home staffers can now be fined and get one year in prison if they “refuse to use the preferred generators pronouns of nursing home residents.” Governor Jerry Brown signed the legislation into law on Thursday. The legislation also “requires nursing homes and care facilities to allow residents to use the bathroom of their choice, regardless of biological sex.” The legislation was part of a so called bill of rights for LGBT Seniors. The legislator who wrote the bill, Scott Weiner, said, “Everyone is entitled to their religious view. But when you enter the public space, when you are running an institution, you are in a workplace, you are in a civil setting, and you have to follow the law.”
