Democrat Representative Won’t Run Again

Oct 7, 2017

Democratic Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter is bailing out. She won’t be seeking re-election in 2018. The decision will create an open seat that Republicans and Democrats will race to fill. The seat has changed party affiliation several times in recent years. Porter said that she wanted to step down so as to be able to be around her family. "I felt the tug of family at our reunion on Independence Day, and I have continued to feel it.” Porter said that 2018 was shaping up to be like 2006 when Democrats took control of Congress. The National Republican Congressional Committee already had highlighted the seat as a “pickup opportunity” for Republicans. Two Republicans have already entered the race. So far no Democrats have announced they are running.
