The U.S. State Department has confirmed that several of its employees at the U.S. Embassy in Cuba suffered serious injuries as a result of what is believed to have been an acoustic attack using one or more sonic devices. The injuries are physical illnesses including possible permanent loss of hearings. Two employees had to be flown back to the United States for treatment.
The FBI is investigating the incidents that may have occurred over a long period of time following Obama’s reopening of the embassy. The Cuban government claims to be cooperating in the investigation and also claims to have no knowledge of the possible cause.
