Limits on Special Counsel’s Investigation

Aug 7, 2017

Rod Rosenstein, Deputy Attorney General, said on Sunday that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has to get permission before investigating any crimes outside of the Russian investigation. “Bob Mueller understands and I understand the specific scope of the investigation, and so no, it's not a fishing expedition," said Rosenstein. It surfaced last week that Mueller has impanelled a Grand Jury to subpoena documents and receive testimony from witnesses. Mueller appears to be looking into the Trump organization. People around President Trump are afraid that Mueller could make the Trump organization the object of his investigation. If a crime has been found in relation to the Russia investigation, Mueller has free reign to investigation and bring charges. But Rosensten will have to grant permission to expand the investigation beyond Russian interference.
