FEC Refuses to Take Up Effort to Shut Down Conservative Websites

Jul 17, 2017

One of the Democrat commissioners on the Federal Election Commission has been shot down by the majority Republican Commissioners when he tried to initiate and investigation into conservative internet news sites like the Drudge Report and Breitbart. The proposed investigation appeared to be an attempt to try to claim that such news sites were somehow influenced by Russian attempts to interfere in the 2016 U.S. election.

The proposal was to make new rules applying only to such conservative news groups. The Republicans felt this would be a clear effort to stifle free speech and freedom of the press in violation of the U.S. Constitution.
