Bipartisan Support For Keeping Big Government

As the federal budget gets pieced together, Republicans are disregarding the Trump Administration’s proposals to slash discretionary spending by $57.3 billion. Instead, Republicans in Congress “have become increasingly bipartisan in trying to restore discretionary spending when it comes to federal jobs.” The Trump Administration wanted to close the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii and reduce staffing for the National Tsunami Warning Center in Alaska. Even though the monitoring system is highly automated, Congress has voted to keep the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center and keep the 40 jobs that the Trump Administration had slated for elimination.
