Investigation Into Whistleblower’s Firing

Jul 13, 2017

A civilian whistleblower in the Department of the Navy was fired for uncovering serious safety issues and bringing them to the attention of the Navy Inspector General’s office. Glenn Schwarz lost his job on June 8. He complained to the Navy IG about improper testing of fueling equipment and fuel and its improper disposal. The Inspector General’s office found Schwarz’s complaints valid. However, recommendations for improvement and quality control were largely ignored by the Navy. Schwarz has appealed his firing. The government’s internal federal watchdog is investigating Schwarz’s firing as an act of retaliation.
