Seattle Creates Local Income Tax

Jul 12, 2017

Seattle Washington is become quite the socialist haven. The City Council imposed a $15 an hour minimum wage on businesses. Many restaurants have closed down because they cannot afford the labor cost. Now the City Council has approved a proposal to impose a 2.25% income tax on people who make above $250,000 a year. While the tax is estimated to bring in $14 million a year, it would cost $10 million to $13 million to implement. After that it would cost $5 million to $6 million to manage and enforce. The tax law is expected to be challenged. State law forbids municipalities from implementing local income taxes. 11,000 people might be affected by the new tax.
