United States Conducts Successful Missile Defense Test

Jul 12, 2017

The U.S. military has confirmed a successful test of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system near Kodiak, Alaska. The defensive missile succeeded in shooting down an intermediate range ballistic missile that was launched from near Hawaii. This is significant since most of the missiles in the North Korean arsenal are short or intermediate range missiles.

However, the troubling fact remains that the most recent test conducted by the North Koreas was of an Intercontinental Ballistic missile (ICBM) that flies higher and farther and is capable of carrying a larger nuclear war head. The U.S. military has not recently conducted a successful test of a missile capable of taking down an ICBM.
