Syrian Group Claims ISIS Supreme Leader is Dead

Jul 12, 2017

According to a group calling itself the Syrian Observatory says it has confirmed the death of ISIS supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The independent group says that he was killed in a Russian airstrike on ISIS headquarters in Syria and the Russians seem to have confirmed it. If true, this would be a major blow to the ISIS terrorist organization and comes after the Iraqi army has liberated the northern Iraq city of Mosul.

It also comes at a time when the ISIS de-facto capital in Syria is surrounded by U.S. supported Kurds and free Syrian troops. American commanders in the field have stated that they have not yet independently confirmed the death.
