Older Americans Keep Working

Nearly 19 percent of Americans aged 65 or older are working. This is the highest point in 55 years. Older Americans are working because they are healthier and living longer. Some enjoy working and see it as a way to stay active. The increased cost of living is another reason why some older Americans are working. Some older Americans are switching from traditional jobs to self-employment. But see a sharp decrease in their earnings. Average annual income drops by just over $18,000.
