Uninsured Americans Increasing

Jul 11, 2017

The number of Americans without health insurance increased by two million people since the beginning of 2017. This is after the uninsured rate hit a low of 10.9 percent in 2016. Contributing to the increase in uninsured people are rising insurance premiums, companies leaving the Obamacare marketplace, and the lack of competition. Another big contributing factor is the uncertainty around the future of health care. Republicans promised for seven years that if they had power, they would repeal Obamacare. They have not been forthcoming on that promise. The plan proposed by the Senate has stalled. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is saying that he may have to work with Democrats to move forward on healthcare.
