Jul 10, 2017

Western Michigan University is using a herd of 20 goats to eat poison ivy and invasive species. "Not wanting to use chemicals, either, we chose the goat solution to stay environmentally friendly,” said a representative for the university. However the union representing the government workers filed a formal grievance. A union representative said that the goats are taking jobs that laid-off laborers should be doing. The union disputes that humans could not just as easily remove the poison ivy. The university representative pointed out that goats were first used in 2016 and no grievance had been filed. The university denies that it violated the collective bargaining agreement.
