What Would A Pence Presidency Look Like?

May 18, 2017

President Trump gave the commencement address at the Coast Guard Academy today. “Adversity makes you stronger—don’t give in and don’t back down and never stop doing what you know is right,” he told the graduates. That said, the White House drama has gotten some people to start thinking about a Pence Presidency if Trump does call the presidency quits. What would a Pence Presidency would look like?Tax reform would likely be on the agenda. While governor of Indiana, the state legislature cut the income tax by 5% and eliminated the inheritance tax. A drop in the state’s corporate income tax rate is being phased in, going from 6.5% to 4.9% by 2021. At the federal level, Pence has supported a flat tax rate. He’s opposed to raising the minimum wage because he understands that it hurts the working poor. While in Congress, Pence opposed the TARP bailout and the bailout of the auto industry. He’ does not support birthright citizenship. And he opposed the DREAM Act. On Social Security, Pence believes that everything needs to be on the table from raising the retirement age to making cuts. He’s called global warming a “myth”. And while in Congress he voted to reign in the EPA. But in 2016 he said “there’s no question” that human’s affect the climate. Pence has also expressed interest in including gold in U.S. monetary affairs.
