Federal Prisosn May Be Filling Up

Changes are underway at the Department of Justice. Attorney General Sessions is sweeping away the Obama Administration’s relaxed rules on prosecuting drug offenses. Under these new rules, the toughest practices of the drug war will return. Now US Attorneys will be charging non-violent defendants in such a way so as to trigger long mandatory minimum sentences that packed federal prisons. Since becoming Attorney General, Sessions has renewed the push for federal contracts with private prisons in anticipation of increased incarceration rates.
