Democrats in Congress are planning to use a discharge petition to bypass Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell and force a vote on appointing a special prosecutor to investigate the alleged Trump campaign’s collusion with the Russian government to somehow steal the presidential election from Hillary Clinton. They would only need a hand full of Republican House and Senate members to join them to get it passed.
However, there are several potential problems with this. First, special federal prosecutors are usually appointed when someone has either been charged with a federal crime or is about to be. There is absolutely no evidence at this point that there was any collusion, must less that a crime was committed. In addition, the President can fire the FBI director at any time for any reason. Again, there is no crime.
