Taiwan Defends a Nearby Island with Military Force

Apr 19, 2017

UPI.com reports that, “Taiwan continues to militarize an island in the South China Sea, Taiping, also known as Itu Aba Island, which is claimed by China, Vietnam, and the Philippines." Of course, China claims everything in the South China Sea. Taiwan is planning a "well-rounded and comprehensive plan" to defend Taiwan's territorial waters, Taiwan's Central News Agency reported… "Taiwan is installing coastal defenses, including multiple rocket launchers with anti-landing capabilities, all remote controlled, as well as anti-aircraft defenses.”

“Vietnam has placed a system of long-range rockets on an island close to Taiping, and the Philippines is expected to conduct a joint drill with U.S. forces in May."
