AG Sessions Attacks Federal Intervention in Local Policing

Apr 18, 2017

Attorney General Jeff Sessions wrote an opinion piece for USA Today, warning against “harmful federal intrusion” in local law enforcement through heavy handed “consent decrees,” where the Dept of Justice forces big city police departments it a forced set of changes based mostly on political correctness.

Sessions wants to return to the old way of doing things with the Feds threatening to prosecute when Police chiefs violate civil rights, but don’t dictate the remedy. He wrote that, “The Department of Justice agrees with the need to rebuild public confidence in law enforcement through common-sense reforms, such as de-escalation training, and we will punish any police conduct that violates civil rights, but such reforms must promote public safety and avoid harmful federal intrusion in the daily work of local police.”
