Air Force Equips F-16s to Drop Nuclear Bomb

Apr 17, 2017

Until recently, none of the F-16 variants were equipped to drop nuclear weapons, but the Air Force is changing that now that the NK threat is looming. An upgraded version of the F-16 fighter/bomber, with an inert B-61 nuclear bomb under its wing successfully hit a target in the Nellis Test range in Nevada.

Both the US and South Korean air force have F-16s in Korea, although those aircraft would have to be upgraded, and crews trained on the use of nuclear weapons to use the new capability. The US does have tactical nuclear artillery shells in Korea.
