Facing horrendous backlash over its use of force to remove a Doctor who refused to deplane as United sought to replace 4 paying passengers in order to accommodate transiting crew members. United CEO Oscar Munoz, who at first had congratulated employees on correctly following company policy, has now completely reversed course and issued a full apology, offering compensation and promising that no passenger would ever be forcibly removed again.
This happened only after United’s stock price took a billion dollar hit, and people started boycotting the airline. The shunning of the forced removal policy by United will probably deter other airlines from doing the same. No airline wants this kind of bad publicity again.
