Even though the White House said that infighting between senior advisor Steve Bannon and Trump son in law Jared Kushner has ceased, Bannon’s influence with the president appears to be heavily damaged. CNN, no friend of the Trump administration seemed to relish commenting about stunningly lukewarm comments the president made this week about Bannon, when asked about the tension:
“President Donald Trump on Tuesday responded, ‘I like Steve, but you have to remember he was not involved in my campaign until very late,’ Trump told New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin. ‘I had already beaten all the senators and all the governors, and I didn't know Steve. I'm my own strategist and it wasn't like I was going to change strategies because I was facing crooked Hillary.’
“Then, just in case anyone missed the point (they didn't), Trump added: "Steve is a good guy, but I told them to straighten it out or I will."
While many are predicting Bannon’s ouster, Trump may be unwilling to do something that will give the media another reason to make fun of Trump disorder in the White House. It is more likely that Bannon will simply be sidelined on many issues.
