Russia Bringing in Short Range Defensive Missiles to Syria

Apr 11, 2017

Even though the Russians believe Trump’s attack on the Syrian airbase near Homs was a single occurrence meant to counter the media claims that he was weak on Russia, plans are underway to bring in numerous medium and short range anti-missile systems to counter cruise missiles should the US try again. The S300 and S400 systems are expensive long range interceptors meant to counter US and Turkish aircraft. Russia was reluctant to waste these high tech long range missiles on a barrage of cruise missile.

To compensate for this lack of a suitable defense the Russian will bring in the Pantsir-S self-propelled anti-aircraft missile and gun system. As Sputnik News wrote,

"This system can detect and destroy any aircraft, helicopter, guided aerial bomb or enemy ballistic missile in a matter of seconds. In addition, the Pantsir-S1…is also designed to destroy ground targets, making it truly universal. The system combines anti-aircraft missiles and cannons, and there is no analogue…in the world today."
