Alabama Governor Robert Bentley was allowed to resign yesterday rather than face impeachment over lying about his inappropriate sexual liaison with senior political adviser, Rebekah Caldwell Mason. Gov. Robert Bentley then used intimidation tactics and deployed state law enforcement officials in an effort to cover it up, and even tried to charge his top law enforcement official with a false crime as penalty for blowing the whistle on him.
He made a plea agreement admitting to certain campaign finance violations rather than be convicted on sexual charges. It was a stunning downfall for the governor who hypocritically championed Christian and family values.
